Turner Tobin, Men's Epee Team, MVP, Men's Teams Captain 2017-18 to 2020-21

April 20, 2021

I started fencing in my last two years of high school. I knew Western had a team so I brought my gear with me to school in first year. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue with the sport at university. Thinking back, I was mostly worried about balancing everything. I ended up sending coach Carol an email. I was invited to tryout and come to a few practices. I ended up joining and I look back on it as one of the best decisions I made in undergrad. I’ve formed incredible bonds with teammates throughout my four years on the team. Many of the highlights I look back on have been from travelling as a team and the bond that brings. Getting to know upper year students on the team was a great experience. It was also incredibly helpful for athletic improvement as well as for my academics. I’m not sure where I’d be without them. Lastly, as I look back on the last four years I’m incredibly grateful for the head coaches Brad and Carol. Their passion and wisdom are the backbone of the team. I’ll always be incredibly grateful for their guidance and connection. It’s hard to say goodbye. So for one last time: “Mustangs on three! 1,2,3 Mustangs!”.

Cheers,

Turner
