The Western Fencing team kicked off their season with a bang at the Queen's Open last weekend! The dynamic trio of Nicola Cheng, Oscar Qi, and Stephanie Ng took home one medal each, with Nicola winning gold in Women's Epee, Oscar earning silver in Men's Foil, and Stephanie taking home bronze in Women's Foil.
The rest of the team brought their A-game too, with top 10 finishes from Cliff Wang in Men's Foil, Rick Wu in Men's Epee, Austen Wong in Men's Sabre, and Stephanie Ng in Women's Epee.
Two new recruits made their fencing debut and absolutely shined. Armin Yousefi won his bout and had a solid showing, coming in 38/43 in Men's Sabre, while Ali Naeij was a force to be reckoned with, getting hits in all his pool bouts and coming close to defeating the 21st ranked fencer in the DEs with a 14-14 tie, ending up 44/46 in Men's Epee.
The team is now gearing up for their next tournament, the RMC Team Invitational on Nov 5-6, 2022. Get ready, fencing fans, the Western Fencing team is coming to conquer!
